A Korean man in his 40s who poured boiling water on his Thai wife's face, causing severe burns, changed his statement during the police investigation. Contrary to his previous claim that he "wanted to prevent her from meeting other men," he told the police that he "spilled it by accident."

On December 12, the Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had conducted a suspect interrogation the previous day for Mr. A, a man in his 40s who was booked on charges of causing bodily injury.

The case began on December 3, when a Thai woman posted a photo of herself in a hospital gown with bandages wrapped around her face on social media. The woman, who was reportedly hospitalized at a hospital in Seoul, claimed that she suffered facial burns after her husband poured hot water on her.

The incident drew further attention after it was reported by local media in Thailand. Ms. B, the Thai wife, claimed that Mr. A committed the crime because he "wanted to make her unattractive out of fear she might meet another man," and to prevent her from leaving him.

However, when Mr. A was investigated by the police, he denied the charges during the suspect interrogation accompanied by his lawyer the previous day, claiming that he "accidentally spilled the boiling water while falling."

The police found Mr. A's claim to be unreliable and, instead of the original charge of causing bodily injury, determined that the boiling water constituted a "dangerous object." They applied the charge of aggravated assault and requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A.

A police official explained, "Based on the suspect's interrogation and the circumstances of the incident, we applied the charge of aggravated assault and requested an arrest warrant."
