On this day in Seoul, Deputy Prime Minister Koo met with Jamshid Abdukhakimovich Khojayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan for Economic Affairs.

The two deputy prime ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation on development-related projects in sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and education. They also committed to continuously discover and enhance the outcomes of projects like the Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) and the Economic Innovation Partnership Program (EIPP).

In the areas of trade, investment, and infrastructure, they agreed to continue supporting Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and to maintain cooperation on quarantine procedures for agricultural imports and exports.

They also agreed to work together to ensure that successful infrastructure cooperation, such as the Urgench International Airport construction public-private partnership (PPP) project, for which the main contract is scheduled to be signed this month, continues to emerge in the future.

Additionally, starting with the Uzbek Chemical Research Institute-which is scheduled for completion next year with the participation of the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology-they agreed to expand cooperation in science and technology, including research and development (R&D).

Furthermore, both sides pledged to ensure that cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields such as intellectual property, healthcare, and mineral resources develops in a future-oriented manner.

Deputy Prime Minister Koo stated, "Uzbekistan is Korea’s most important cooperation partner in Central Asia," and added, "I look forward to our partnership remaining strong in the future as well."

This is the sixth meeting of the two countries’ deputy prime ministers since the first was held in Tashkent in 2018, and it is the first meeting since the launch of the new administration.

An official from the Ministry of Economy and Finance explained, "With the Korea-Central Asia Summit scheduled for next year, this meeting was meaningful as an opportunity for the two deputy prime ministers to review current issues and discuss economic cooperation initiatives."
