"Even a Small Help for Neighbors in Need"
Chilgok County in North Gyeongsang Province announced that volunteer Jung Youngmi, who has devoted herself to volunteer work for the local community over many years, received the prestigious Prime Minister's Commendation at the 2025 Korea Volunteer Awards during the National Volunteer Conference held on December 5.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Volunteer Council, and the Korea Volunteer Center Association, the Korea Volunteer Awards is the nation's most prestigious honor, annually recognizing outstanding volunteers and organizations that have made significant contributions to the promotion of volunteerism and demonstrated excellence in disaster and emergency response activities.

This year’s Prime Minister's Commendation was awarded to Jung Youngmi, who has been an active member of the Buksam Red Cross Volunteer Society in Chilgok County for the past 24 years. She has participated in a wide range of volunteer activities, including providing meals and recovery support during disasters and emergencies, offering psychological counseling, and taking part in the Korea Warmth Sharing Volunteer program.
In addition, she has consistently engaged in sharing side dishes and providing free meals for the underprivileged, multicultural families, and people with disabilities, accompanied people with disabilities on outings, and offered bathing assistance. She has also taken the lead in home repair projects for vulnerable households and supported community events, making significant contributions to solving local issues.
Her ongoing dedication has become a role model in the community and is recognized for having a positive impact on improving residents’ welfare and strengthening the sense of community.
Jung Youngmi said, “I am honored and delighted to receive such an unexpected and significant award. I will continue my volunteer work so that I can offer even a little help to neighbors in need.”
She added, “I hope this award serves as an opportunity to share the value and fulfillment of volunteerism with even more people.”
