Fraud Suspect in His 40s Escapes During Prosecutors' Execution of Arrest Warrant

A suspect facing fraud charges escaped during the prosecution's attempt to arrest him, prompting both the prosecution and police to pursue him.

According to the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office and other sources on December 1, at around 10:10 a.m. that day, suspect A (a man in his 40s) fled while the prosecution was executing an arrest warrant at a hotel in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju.

After asking for time to pack his belongings, A took advantage of a moment when the prosecutor's investigator was less attentive and escaped by car. It was reported that the vehicle was not one that had been started and waiting by someone else in advance.

The location where the prosecution lost track of A is only 4.5 kilometers from a highway interchange (IC) that connects to either South Jeolla Province or North Jeolla Province. A is suspected of fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.

He is a suspect in a case that the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office received from the police, but he is not a wanted fugitive.

The prosecution believes A has left Gwangju and moved to another region, and is currently tracking his whereabouts. The police, having received a request for cooperation, are also monitoring key locations and tracing A's movements.
