Legal Action Against Spreading False Information"
Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party, has announced plans for legal action, stating that false information is circulating regarding his alleged presence at the scene of the sexual harassment incident involving Assemblyman Jang Kyungtae of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party, is being interviewed on The Asia Business Daily AK Radio at the National Assembly on August 5.
On the 27th, Lee wrote on his social media, "It appears that a certain group is widely spreading the false claim that I was present at the scene of Assemblyman Jang Kyungtae's sexual harassment incident." He added, "I will not stand by and watch such intentional and organized slander. I will take legal action."
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Assemblyman Jang Kyungtae was sued on the 25th on charges of molesting a female secretary at the National Assembly. The female secretary claims that during a gathering at a restaurant in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, on October 23 last year, which was during the National Assembly's audit period, she was harassed by Assemblyman Jang. On the 26th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency took over the case, assigned it to the Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit, and launched an investigation. After news of the lawsuit broke, Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae instructed Secretary-General Cho Seungrae and the party’s Ethics Inspection Team to conduct a fact-finding investigation.
Regarding the matter, Assemblyman Jang Kyungtae told reporters, "It is not true," and explained, "During a dinner with secretaries at the time, I briefly stepped away to another table and was outside when a man who claimed to be (Ms. A's) boyfriend caused a disturbance, so I left." He continued, "I understand that the matter was internally investigated and resolved in Ms. A's office the next day, and I know nothing beyond that." He emphasized, "I will respond firmly, including taking legal action, against false accusations and slander."
