During the second trial, prosecutors requested a one-year prison sentence for Moon Da-hye, daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, who was previously fined for drunk driving and operating illegal lodging businesses.
On November 27, during the first hearing of Moon's appeal at the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appellate Division 2-3 (Presiding Judge Lim Gihwan), prosecutors requested a one-year prison sentence. In the first trial held in April, the court had sentenced Moon to a fine of 15 million won.
In her final statement, Moon said, "I fully acknowledge my wrongdoing and deeply regret my actions. I promise not to repeat the same mistakes in the future. Lastly, I sincerely apologize to the victim who was harmed by this incident."
Moon was put on trial for driving under the influence of alcohol and violating the Road Traffic Act after she, while heavily intoxicated, changed lanes and collided with a following taxi in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan District, on October 5 last year. At the time of the accident, her blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.149%, exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.
She is also accused of violating the Public Health Control Act by illegally operating an officetel in Yeongdeungpo District, a villa in Yangpyeong-dong, and a detached house in Hyeopjae-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City as unlicensed lodging businesses, earning a total of 136 million won over approximately five years.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 29 next year at 10 a.m.
