Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in a large goose carcass found at Chukmanje, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The Suwon city government announced on November 27 that it received these results on November 26 after sending the large goose carcass, which was discovered and reported by a resident at Chukmanje on November 21, to the National Institute of Wildlife Disease Control and Prevention for avian influenza testing.
As a result of the confirmation of highly pathogenic avian influenza, the Gyeonggi Provincial Headquarters of the Livestock Hygiene and Quarantine Support Center began initial quarantine measures around the detection site starting November 24.
Suwon city is restricting access to the section from Chukman Bridge to the water purification facility. In addition, monitoring activities for wild birds are being strengthened within a 10-kilometer radius of the detection site. Surveillance is being conducted at least five times a week at seven migratory bird habitats: Gwanggyo Reservoir, Ilwol Reservoir, Manseokgeo, Hwangguji Stream, Chukmanje, Woncheon Reservoir, and Shindae Reservoir.
A Suwon city official urged, "Please actively cooperate with the access control measures to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus," and added, "Do not come into direct contact with wild birds and maintain a safe distance."
