Son Yeol-eum and the Going Home Project to Perform Ravel's "Piano Concerto for the Left Hand"

At Goyang Aram Concert Hall on December 9

The resident ensemble of the Goyang Cultural Foundation, the Going Home Project, will perform Ravel's "Piano Concerto for the Left Hand" and Beethoven's "Choral Symphony" at Goyang Aram Nuri Aram Concert Hall on December 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Pianist Son Yeol-eum will perform the opening piece, "Concerto for the Left Hand." This work was composed by Ravel for pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm, and requires the performer to deliver the full technical and sonic depth of all movements using only the left hand, making it a particularly challenging piece.

In March of this year, Son Yeol-eum recorded this concerto with the Residentie Orkest under the baton of Anja Bihlmaier, and released it as an album.

Son Yeol-eum said, "I hope this concert will be a gift to the Goyang audience, who have shown such great support for the Going Home Project. This is my first time performing the Concerto for the Left Hand in Korea, and I am deeply moved to play it in Goyang, our new home, in collaboration with the Going Home Project, which is a particularly meaningful stage for me."

Immediately following, without intermission, Beethoven's "Choral Symphony" will be performed.

The Going Home Project previously performed the Choral Symphony at the Seoul Arts Center last year, with all tickets sold out. The ensemble will once again be joined by soprano Hong Hye-ran, mezzo-soprano Kim Hyo-na, and tenor Choi Won-hui, who performed together at that time. Bass Lee Dong-hwan, the first Korean baritone to be invited as a soloist at London's Covent Garden and Berlin's Deutsche Oper, will newly join the lineup.

The Going Home Project is an orchestra formed in 2022 by musicians of Korean origin active worldwide, as well as musicians who consider Korea their second home. The group is centered around cellist Kim Doo-min, flutist Cho Sung-hyun, clarinetist Cho In-hyuk, pianist Son Yeol-eum, and bassoonist Yoo Sung-kwon.
