The Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Agency is accelerating preparations for a public contest to designate the Green Bio Promotion Zone. As a national strategic project, the first phase of this contest is the establishment of a "Natural Products Standardization Hub."
To this end, on November 24, the agency signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeonnam Development Corporation, establishing a collaborative system for the construction and facilities that are central to the standardization hub. Through this agreement, the two organizations have decided to cooperate from the initial stages of site development, facility construction, and permits, laying a crucial foundation to enhance the stability and execution of the project.
The standardization hub will be built on a 16,466-square-meter site within the Jangheung Bio Food Industrial Complex in Jeonnam, with a total investment of 35 billion won. The plan includes a three-story specialized research facility and a test-bed for pilot cultivation of various natural resources. The core goal is to implement a full-cycle support system in a single space, covering contract cultivation, analysis, and validation.
Jeonnam has been consistently recognized for its abundant agricultural and biological resources and its strengths in natural product-based industries, leading to ongoing calls for the establishment of standardization infrastructure to enhance the technological competitiveness of related companies and expand the market. In particular, this hub is expected to lower technological entry barriers for local companies and serve as a key foundation for strengthening their ability to meet domestic and international certifications and standards.
In addition, the agency is pushing ahead with the creation of a "Green Bio Venture Campus" in the Naju area to accelerate the discovery and nurturing of green bio startups. The venture campus will be a comprehensive startup incubation facility equipped with office space, laboratories, and commercialization support infrastructure, providing a support system for promising early-stage companies to develop technology and enter the market stably.
The Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Agency aims to build an industrial ecosystem that links the regions of Jangheung, Naju, Suncheon, and Gokseong, with the long-term goal of establishing a green bio industry cluster across the region and achieving tangible results in the designation of the Green Bio Promotion Zone.
Yoon Hoyul, Director of the Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Agency, stated, "The full-cycle standardization hub for natural product materials is a core infrastructure that will elevate the competitiveness of Jeonnam's green bio industry. If an ecosystem organically connecting research, startups, and commercialization is established, it will become a key driver for Jeonnam to emerge as the center of Korea's green bio industry."
