Stone Foundation Reinforcement at Hongryongsa
Enhancing Both Beauty and Stability
Hongryongsa, a thousand-year-old temple in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, has given its Main Buddha Hall and the surrounding area a fresh new look.
The city of Yangsan and Hongryongsa Temple have completed the stone foundation repair project around the Main Buddha Hall to enhance the safety of visitors who come to see both Hongryongsa and the nearby Hongryong Waterfall.
Hongryongsa is one of the Eight Scenic Views of Yangsan, and the number of visitors to both the Hongryong Waterfall and the Main Buddha Hall continues to increase day by day.
As a result, the important stone foundation that forms the front yard of the Main Buddha Hall, the central dharma hall of Hongryongsa, had become unstable over time due to the loss of some stones and soil, making it insufficient to withstand the heavy water flow during torrential rains. This latest repair project has reinforced the stability of the stone foundation around the Main Buddha Hall.
The recent project involved repairing approximately 93 meters of the stone foundation in front of the Main Buddha Hall. The city of Yangsan and Hongryongsa Temple jointly invested a total of 1 billion won in the project, which began in December 2024, was completed in November this year, and is scheduled for final completion in December.
Mayor Na Dongyeon expressed his expectations, saying, "With the newly restored stone foundation around the Main Buddha Hall, I hope that all visitors to Hongryongsa will be able to safely and comfortably enjoy the Hongryong Waterfall and the surrounding natural scenery, especially as we approach the Year of Visiting Yangsan in 2026." He added, "This repair will further expand opportunities for visitors to enjoy walks and fully appreciate the beauty and tranquil atmosphere of Hongryongsa."
