Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province received the Ministerial Award from the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment in the category of carbon neutrality implementation performance among basic local governments at the 2025 Local Government Carbon Neutrality Conference held in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.

The conference, held from November 17 to 18, brought together central government, local governments, businesses, and civil society to discuss and seek solutions for achieving carbon neutrality. Hosted by the Korea Environment Corporation and organized by the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment, the event was attended by major local governments and experts from across the country.
Under the slogan "Our Choice for Us, Carbon Neutrality," Changwon City received high marks for its three main areas of practice, which were tailored to local characteristics: public-private cooperation, citizen participation, and support for vulnerable groups. Through this award, Changwon was recognized as a leading local government in achieving carbon neutrality in Korea, and its systematic efforts toward a sustainable future have been highlighted as a national model.
On November 18, Park Sunhee, Head of the Climate and Air Division of Changwon Special City, attended the conference and presented the city’s carbon neutrality strategies and achievements. Under the theme "Changwon City’s Carbon Neutrality Promotion and Implementation Achievements," Park introduced the city’s key initiatives, actual outcomes, and future plans, drawing significant interest from the participants.
Lee Yujeong, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau, said, "We are delighted that Changwon’s efforts toward building a carbon-neutral society together with citizens have been recognized," adding, "We will use this award as motivation to continue doing our utmost to implement policies for a sustainable carbon-neutral city in Changwon."
