Uiseong County Launches Comprehensive Wildfire Response Review Across All Towns and Townships

Realistic Wildfire Drill Conducted in 18 Towns and Townships
Comprehensive Overhaul of Response System After March's Large-Scale Wildfire

Uiseong County has conducted a comprehensive review of its wildfire response system at the county level, drawing lessons from the large-scale wildfires that occurred in the spring. On November 17, Uiseong County (Governor Kim Jusu) announced that it had carried out a large-scale simulated wildfire suppression drill across all 18 towns and townships within its jurisdiction to strengthen initial response capabilities.

This drill was organized in the wake of the large wildfire in March, which underscored the importance of securing the "golden hour." The focus was on verifying, in a realistic manner, whether the regular response organization and emergency contact network in each town and township would function properly in an actual emergency.

The county divided the drill into two sessions: nine towns and townships in the eastern region participated at 9:30 a.m., and nine in the western region participated at 4:00 p.m. Each town and township carried out the entire process-from wildfire reporting, initial suppression, resident evacuation, mop-up operations, to post-event evaluation-at a real-world level, conducting a thorough review of their response systems.

The drill involved not only staff from the town and township administrative welfare centers, but also key members of the local safety network, including volunteer fire brigades, community policing teams, police, firefighters, medical institutions, and local residents. The main focus was to closely examine whether the inter-agency cooperation system would function effectively in practice.

Uiseong County formed a separate evaluation team to specifically assess the condition of suppression equipment, the speed of mobilization, the system for information sharing between agencies, and whether there was any confusion during the resident evacuation process.

Governor Kim Jusu of Uiseong County stated, "The first 30 minutes of wildfire response determine the extent of the damage. Through this joint county-level drill, we have proactively identified and addressed vulnerabilities. We will continue to strengthen practical prevention activities and rapid initial response systems to protect the lives and property of our residents."

With the winter season approaching, when wildfire risks increase sharply, Uiseong County also plans to introduce additional measures, such as equipment maintenance and a renewed review of personnel readiness.
