Joint Efforts for Sustainable Development Around the Dam Area
On November 6, it was announced that at the Hapcheon County Office in Gyeongnam, the Hapcheon Dam Branch of K-water (Korea Water Resources Corporation) and Hapcheon County signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the "Yongju-myeon Rural Well-being Theme Market, 'The Urban Orchard'" project.
This agreement was established to officially build a mutual cooperation system between the two organizations and to jointly ensure the smooth implementation of "The Urban Orchard," which was selected as a Korea Water Resources Corporation public contest project on June 30 and is scheduled to be carried out with a project budget of 1 billion won. The aim is to promote the sustainable development of the areas surrounding the dam.

The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Yuncheol, Mayor of Hapcheon County, the head of the Hapcheon Dam branch of Korea Water Resources Corporation, the Director of Safety and Construction of Hapcheon County, the Director of Environmental Sanitation, and the head of Yongju-myeon. They signed the agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to mutual cooperation.
Under the agreement, the "Yongju-myeon Well-being Theme Market, 'The Urban Orchard'" project will be funded equally by Hapcheon County and K-water, with each contributing 500 million won. The project aims to create a rural complex market that combines the sale of local agricultural specialties, local food experiences, and rest facilities. Through this, the plan is to identify new hubs for consumption and tourism in rural areas while simultaneously boosting local income and improving living convenience.
Mayor Kim Yuncheol stated, "This agreement goes beyond simply creating facilities; it will serve as an opportunity to genuinely improve the living conditions of residents around the dam and invigorate the local economy. We will continue to expand cooperation with Korea Water Resources Corporation to discover and promote support projects that residents can directly benefit from."
Meanwhile, Hapcheon County plans to work with Korea Water Resources Corporation to implement a variety of resident-participation projects aimed at improving living infrastructure, revitalizing tourism, and expanding the local income base in areas surrounding the dam. Through this agreement, the county intends to clarify the roles of related organizations and enhance both the speed and stability of project implementation.
