Up to 1.5 Million Won Provided for Five Months of Parental Leave
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on November 4 that it will expand support to minimize gaps in childcare coverage by reorganizing its family care system starting next year.
Beginning in January next year, the city will establish the "Hwaseong Childcare Center" at the Byeongjeom U&I Center to expand support so that children in households with working parents or other childcare gaps can grow up in a safe and stable care environment.
The center will be dedicated to the childcare support program. It will provide integrated, customized childcare services for children from three months old to under 12 years old through professional caregivers, including full-day, hourly, temporary, and group care options.
In March next year, a new "Paternity Leave Incentive Program" will be launched to promote work-life balance and foster an equitable caregiving culture by encouraging fathers to participate in childcare. Under this program, fathers who take at least three months of parental leave will receive 300,000 won per month for up to five months, totaling a maximum of 1.5 million won.
Park Mirang, Director of Welfare at Hwaseong City, stated, "Care policies are not simply welfare measures, but essential aspects of daily life for our citizens," adding, "Through the opening of the Childcare Center and the launch of the Paternity Leave Incentive Program, we aim to create a happy caregiving culture for all families."
