KOSPI Surpasses 4,200... Closes at All-Time High

The KOSPI index surged more than 2%, surpassing the 4,200 mark and setting a new all-time high.

On the 3rd, the KOSPI closed at 4,221.87, up 114.37 points (2.78%) from the previous trading day.


The KOSPI opened at 4,123.36, up 0.39% from the previous day. However, the index continued to gain momentum from early trading as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix led the rally, further widening the gains. Although the index briefly retreated to the 4,180 range in the afternoon, it quickly recovered and ended the session above 4,220.


By investor type, individuals recorded a net purchase of 952.3 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions posted net sales of 912.4 billion won and 21.8 billion won, respectively.


By sector, electrical and electronics rose 5.42%, and electricity and gas jumped 4.90%. Securities climbed 2.81%, while finance and machinery & equipment also gained more than 1%. In contrast, transportation & storage and construction fell by more than 2%. Textile & apparel, non-metallic minerals, and telecommunications also declined by more than 1%.


Among the top market cap stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 111,100 won, up 3,600 won (3.35%) from the previous session. SK Hynix surged 10.91% to 620,000 won. Hanwha Aerospace rose 6.44%, and NAVER gained 2.62%. On the other hand, Kia fell 1.83%.


On the KOSPI, 288 stocks rose, including DIC which hit the upper price limit, while 615 stocks declined with none hitting the lower limit. Twenty-four stocks remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ index closed at 914.55, up 14.13 points (1.57%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreign investors recorded a net purchase of 376.3 billion won. In contrast, individuals and institutions posted net sales of 336.3 billion won and 3.4 billion won, respectively.


By sector, finance rose 4.51%, and machinery & equipment climbed 3.89%. Construction, electrical & electronics, and chemicals also jumped more than 1%. In contrast, textile & apparel and non-metallic minerals fell by more than 2%. Paper & wood, transportation & storage, and food & beverages & tobacco also declined by more than 1%.


Among the top market cap stocks, Alteogen closed at 523,000 won, up 34,500 won (7.06%) from the previous session. Roboteez and Rainbow Robotics surged 24.49% and 11.23%, respectively. Ecopro BM and ABL Bio also jumped more than 3%. On the other hand, HLB and Peptron fell by more than 2%.


On the KOSDAQ, 569 stocks rose, including six that hit the upper price limit, while 1,108 stocks declined. Fifty-one stocks remained unchanged.
