Jindo County in Jeonnam has opened the way for the purchase of 2025 public stockpiled rice.
The county announced that on the 30th of last month, it began purchasing dried rice for the 2025 public stockpiled rice program at the Gunnae-myeon purchasing site, making it the first in Jeonnam to do so. The event was attended by the head of the Jindo County Agricultural Technology Center, the head of the Agricultural Support Division, the director of the Jeonnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, the head of the Jindo office, and about 50 local farmers.
This year, the varieties being purchased are 'Saechungmu' and 'Gangdaechan.' The purchases are being made following quality inspections by the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service.
Since 2023, Jindo County has ranked first for two consecutive years in the 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Top Grade Ratio' and is aiming to achieve first place for three years in a row this year as well. To this end, the county plans to sequentially purchase a total of 253,217 bags (based on 40kg per bag) of dried rice, eco-friendly rice, and rice for flour.
The purchase price for the 2025 public stockpiled rice will be determined based on the national average farm gate rice price from October to December, and an interim payment of 40,000 won per bag will be made immediately after purchase. The final settlement is scheduled to be completed by the end of December.
Kim Heesu, Governor of Jindo County, stated, "Jindo County has recorded the highest top-grade ratio in Jeonnam for public stockpiled rice over the past two years and has been selected as one of Jeonnam's top 10 high-quality rice brands, earning recognition for the best quality nationwide. This year, we will join forces with farmers to achieve first place for the third consecutive year."
Meanwhile, the county emphasized that if farmers ship varieties not designated for public stockpiling, they will be excluded from the purchase program for five years, and therefore, only designated varieties should be shipped this year.
