Active Advocacy for Key Pending Projects
Request for National Funding to Complete Regional Growth Axis and Strengthen Industrial Competitiveness
On October 27, Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province, led by Deputy Mayor Jeong Seonghyeon and about 10 senior officials, visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance at the Government Sejong Complex to actively advocate for securing next year’s national budget and to highlight the necessity of Gumi’s key pending projects.
During the visit, the Gumi delegation met with officials including Hyangwoo Jeong, Social Budget Review Officer, and Changhwan Park, Economic Budget Review Officer at the Budget Office of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, to explain the necessity and expected benefits of major projects aimed at completing Gumi’s growth axis and strengthening the competitiveness of local industries.
They also held individual discussions with division directors from each budget office, focusing on persuasive efforts centered on the regional ripple effects of the projects, so that they could be reflected in the government budget.

The main proposals included: ▲ Construction of the National Museum of Korean History (Gumi Industrialization History Museum), ▲ Construction of the ‘Gumi-New Airport’ railway (5th National Railway Network), ▲ Establishment of ‘East Gumi Station’, ▲ Regeneration project for the aging Gumi 3rd National Industrial Complex [bridge connecting Complexes 1-3], ▲ Maintenance of deteriorated sewage pipelines at two locations outside the 4th Complex treatment area, ▲ Establishment of a Food Tech Research Support Center, ▲ Creation of a manufacturing startup incubator in Gumi, and ▲ Establishment of a data space for regional small and medium-sized enterprises, among others.
The city emphasized that these projects are essential for creating future growth engines and enhancing industrial competitiveness in the region, and requested both financial and administrative support.
Jeong Seonghyeon, Deputy Mayor of Gumi City, stated, “Before the National Assembly reviews the government budget proposal, we ask for your attention and support to ensure that Gumi’s major projects are included,” adding, “We will continue close consultations with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and actively respond until the final inclusion is achieved.”
Gumi City plans to continue proactively identifying essential regional projects aligned with the new government’s policy direction, while pursuing strategic responses and field-oriented administration to secure national funding.
