Incheon Branch and Headquarters Under Inspection
"Zero-Tolerance Policy if Violations Are Confirmed"
Labor authorities launched a special inspection into the popular bakery cafe "London Bagel Museum" on October 29. With suspicions raised that a staff member in their twenties died from overwork, the authorities decided to investigate issues related to excessive working hours.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it has begun a labor inspection of both the Incheon branch of London Bagel Museum, where the employee worked, and the headquarters of LBM Co., Ltd. located in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The ministry will not only look into the long working hours related to the deceased employee but will also examine whether there have been additional violations affecting other staff members. The inspection will focus on issues such as the granting of leave and holidays, delayed wage payments, and other potential violations of labor laws.
If any violations are found, the ministry plans to take strict action. Should it determine that there is a possibility of labor law violations across the entire chain, the inspection will be immediately expanded to the remaining five branches.
Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Younghoon stated, "We will thoroughly uncover the facts through this inspection," adding, "If any violations are confirmed, we will respond firmly based on a zero-tolerance policy."
The deceased employee was found dead at the company dormitory at around 8:20 a.m. on July 16. According to the bereaved family, the employee was reportedly under severe work-related stress due to preparations for the opening of a new branch and other duties.
