"Takaichi of Japan to Nominate Trump for Nobel Prize"

Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister of Japan, is expected to recommend U.S. President Donald Trump as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, according to reports by Kyodo News and Nippon TV (Nittere) on October 28 (local time).

An official from the Japanese government told Kyodo News that Prime Minister Takaichi plans to convey her intention to nominate President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize during the Japan-U.S. summit.

Previously, on October 25, during her first phone call with President Trump since taking office, Prime Minister Takaichi was reported to have praised President Trump's leadership in contributing to stability in the Middle East.

It is also reported that she will cite President Trump's role in presiding over the joint signing of a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia on October 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the venue of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit, as a reason for his Nobel Peace Prize nomination.

President Trump claimed that, through his mediation, eight wars around the world ended this year, expressing his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but ultimately did not receive the award.

Previously, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had a close relationship with President Trump, recommended him as a Nobel Peace Prize candidate in 2019, citing his efforts to ease tensions with North Korea.

However, during the Japan-U.S. summit on this day, Prime Minister Takaichi's remarks regarding the recommendation of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize have not been confirmed.
