The Gyeonggi Province Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital, located within National Health Insurance Ilsan Hospital, is the first designated children's rehabilitation medical institution in the Seoul metropolitan area. It provides essential intensive rehabilitation treatment for high-risk and severely disabled children. In particular, by establishing a community-based children's rehabilitation medical system, the hospital has created an environment where children and their families can receive uninterrupted rehabilitation treatment close to home.

Starting with temporary operations during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the hospital began full-scale operations in 2022 with 51 beds, and by the first half of this year, it had provided a cumulative total of approximately 157,000 medical services. Last year alone, the hospital treated around 44,000 children, more than doubling the amount of rehabilitation care previously provided. Notably, its operational strategy, tailored to the high proportion of day ward and outpatient cases characteristic of pediatric rehabilitation, resulted in a patient retention rate of 77.9% within the region, solidifying a locally integrated treatment system.

The hospital has offered specialized rehabilitation programs such as robotic gait therapy, aquatic rehabilitation, respiratory rehabilitation, and computerized cognitive therapy. The number of robotic gait therapy sessions increased nearly eightfold, from 401 in 2021 to 3,167 in 2024. As the first institution nationwide to operate a hospital-based kindergarten under a consignment system, the hospital enables children to pursue both learning and treatment, earning strong support from parents and patients alike.

The parent of a young patient said, "Although my child was already seven years old, due to a brain lesion disability, he could only crawl. He finally took his first steps here. I am grateful that you have given him the opportunity to gain confidence and motivation."

The hospital has established a multidisciplinary collaboration system and operates a wide range of specialized medical departments, including rehabilitation medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, orthopedics, and dentistry. Alongside the advancement of treatment programs, it leads the improvement and standardization of pediatric rehabilitation medical services through nationwide symposiums and professional training. As a result, it has become a leading institution, spearheading a network of children's rehabilitation medical facilities not only in the Gyeonggi region but across the country.

In particular, by implementing the Fast Track System, the hospital provides immediate rehabilitation treatment to patients requiring urgent care without any waiting time.

Looking ahead, Gyeonggi Province Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital plans to further strengthen its system to prevent secondary disabilities and complications by providing not only acute rehabilitation treatment but also continuous management and early intervention based on regular life-cycle evaluations throughout school age and adolescence.

Lee Jongik, Director of Health Promotion at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Gyeonggi Province Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital is the only acute-phase general hospital-based children's rehabilitation institution in the country, providing tangible support to children with disabilities and their families in the region. Through the re-designation of the Gyeonggi Province Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital by the Ministry of Health and Welfare this year, we will do our utmost to ensure that the children's rehabilitation model can spread nationwide."
