Taebaek City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Sangho Lee) is accelerating the development of an "indoor sports town" that can be used year-round, as major sports infrastructure projects such as the "Taebaek Four Seasons Multipurpose Training Facility (Air Dome)" and the "Clean Highland Sports Center (Highland 3 Gymnasium)" are progressing smoothly.

On the 17th, Mayor Sangho Lee personally visited the sites to inspect the progress of construction for the "Taebaek Four Seasons Multipurpose Training Facility (Air Dome)" and the "Clean Highland Sports Center (Highland 3 Gymnasium)." This inspection was conducted to check the status of each stage of the project and to ensure that the facilities will be completed safely for use by both citizens and athletes.
Currently, Taebaek City is simultaneously pursuing the development of four sports facilities: the Taebaek Four Seasons Multipurpose Training Facility (Air Dome), the Clean Highland Sports Center (Highland 3 Gymnasium), the Taebaek Hyu Training Center, and the expansion of the Taebaek Bowling Stadium.
The total project cost is approximately 50 billion won, with major facilities scheduled for phased completion, starting with the Taebaek Four Seasons Multipurpose Training Facility (Air Dome) in the first half of 2026 and followed by the Clean Highland Sports Center (Highland 3 Gymnasium) and others in the second half of the year.
This project is particularly significant as it takes full advantage of the clean highland environment at an average altitude of 900 meters to establish a year-round "indoor sports town" for training. With an environment that enables stable training not only in summer but also in winter, Taebaek is expected to establish itself as a national hub for training camps and as a "mecca of sports."
Additionally, the new facilities will be operated as multipurpose spaces that can be used not only by training teams but also by all citizens. They are expected to be widely utilized for activities such as daycare and school sports, as well as various cultural and sports events, making them highly anticipated as community-based, multi-purpose sports complexes that can be enjoyed regardless of weather or season.
Mayor Sangho Lee stated, "Taebaek City is regaining its vitality through sports," and added, "We will continue to develop into Korea's leading highland sports city, where both citizens and athletes are satisfied, through systematic facility management and efficient operations."
