Singer G-Dragon (real name Kwon Jiyong) has taken legal action against malicious online posts targeting him.
On October 17, his agency, Galaxy Corporation, announced, "We are actively pursuing legal action in cooperation with law firm Yulchon regarding defamatory posts, the spread of false information, and malicious slander against G-Dragon."
According to the agency, a comprehensive investigation was completed by the end of last month based on collected evidence and reports from fans. As a result, on October 15, multiple individuals responsible for malicious posts were reported to investigative authorities on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation).
Galaxy Corporation stated, "We are focusing on acts that constitute serious criminal offenses, such as 'defamation by stating false facts,' rather than simple insults, and are responding thoroughly to ensure substantial punishment. We are also rigorously selecting relevant cases and continuously submitting them to investigative authorities."
The agency added, "We are additionally identifying cases where malicious posts were distributed anonymously or under pseudonyms on major domestic platforms and online communities. We plan to identify the authors and file additional complaints sequentially."
The agency further stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that G-Dragon can focus on his creative activities in a healthy and stable environment," and expressed deep gratitude for the continued reports and support from fans.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon was investigated by the police in 2023 on suspicion of drug use, but the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's narcotics unit decided not to refer the case for prosecution, concluding there was no evidence of wrongdoing.
