Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation Creates 'Mini Garden' at Bomun Complex in Gyeongju to Commemorate APEC Summit

Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Namil) announced on October 16 that it has created the '2025 APEC Summit Memorial Mini Garden' at the plaza of the Bomun Tourist Complex Water Performance Hall in preparation for and in commemoration of the 2025 APEC Summit.

This project was initiated to celebrate the 50-year history of the Bomun Tourist Complex, which marks the starting point of modern landscaping in South Korea, and to shed new light on the identity of landscaping culture and the symbolic value of the space.

Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation Creates 'Mini Garden' at Bomun Complex in Gyeongju to Commemorate APEC Summit An employee is explaining to tourists at the Gyeongju APEC Memorial Mini Garden, created by the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation within the Bomun Complex.

The mini garden, designed based on the butterfly pattern from the official emblem of the 2025 APEC Summit, features a layout inspired by a butterfly taking flight. At its center, the blue evergreen tree 'Blue Arrow' has been planted to three-dimensionally express the themes of hope, progress, and the will to soar toward a sustainable future.

In addition, the garden has been created as an open photo zone where anyone can stay and enjoy, providing tourists and citizens with a welcoming space for relaxation.

The Bomun Tourist Complex, systematically developed in the 1970s as part of the government's tourism development policy, is the first tourist complex in Korea and the starting point of modern Korean landscaping. Over the past half-century, it has maintained its beautiful scenery under the careful management of Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation.

This year is particularly significant as it marks both the 50th anniversary of the Bomun Tourist Complex and the hosting of the APEC Summit. On November 7, the 'Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture Fall Academic Conference' and the 'Bomun Landscape Forum' are scheduled to be held within the complex.

This event is expected to provide a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the history and significance of Bomun landscaping and to discuss future directions for development.

To discover future talent in the landscaping field and expand youth participation, Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation held the 'Bomun Tourist Complex Landscaping Idea Contest' last September. Through this, the corporation is reinterpreting the tourist complex space and seeking ways to revitalize tourism through landscaping.

Furthermore, the corporation plans to gradually implement the 'Local Coexistence Street Garden Project,' which utilizes the beautiful green belts of the Bomun Tourist Complex. Local companies will participate together to spread garden culture and establish a sustainable foundation for garden culture that grows with the local community through a cooperative model between the public and private sectors.

President Kim Namil stated, "This APEC Memorial Mini Garden will serve as a symbolic space that commemorates the 50-year history of landscaping at the Bomun Tourist Complex and showcases the excellence of Korean landscaping to the world ahead of the APEC Summit. We will continue to nurture the Bomun Tourist Complex so that it develops as a park and garden-style tourist destination where nature, art, and landscaping come together."
