Gwangju Buk-gu is forming the 'Saebomjigi Team' to identify and support neighbors suffering from social isolation. The district will recruit residents to participate in the initiative until October 15, launching activities aimed at preventing solitary deaths and supporting recovery in daily life.
According to Buk-gu on October 9, this project is a joint effort between the district and the Community Social Security Council. Its goal is to prevent solitary deaths by identifying households isolated due to severed family relationships or financial hardship at an early stage and connecting them with support services.
The 'Saebomjigi Team' will consist of about 40 members. In collaboration with the Community Social Security Councils of 27 neighborhoods in Buk-gu, the team will carry out tasks such as identifying isolated neighbors, making home visits to check on their well-being, and conducting awareness campaigns. Activity expenses will also be provided.
Last month, on September 24, Buk-gu established a cooperative system by signing agreements with the Gwangju Hikikomori Support Center, Buk-gu Mental Health Welfare Center, and Buk-gu Integrated Addiction Management Support Center.
Any resident of Buk-gu is eligible to participate. Applications can be submitted via email or in person. Selected team members will receive both theoretical and practical training, including understanding social isolation, methods of providing emotional support, and best practices from other local governments, before engaging in field activities.
Neighbors identified through this initiative will be offered customized programs to support recovery in daily life and help them build social networks.
