A male part-time worker at a food factory was arrested after putting metal parts such as bolts and nuts into food products during production.
On September 30, Nagasaki Broadcasting reported that a male part-time worker employed at a food manufacturing company in Omura City, Nagasaki Prefecture, was arrested by police on September 30 on charges including property damage for contaminating food in production with foreign substances. The arrested individual is a 61-year-old male part-time worker residing in Omura City.
According to the police, this man is accused of contaminating food in production with foreign substances such as bolts and nuts at the food manufacturing company where he worked in Omura City, around 7:30 p.m. on July 30 and around 7:00 p.m. on August 1 this year. He is suspected of damaging the products and interfering with work such as shipment operations.
The company discovered the contamination during a metal detection inspection before shipment and reported the incident to the police on August 2. The contaminated products were not shipped.
Through their investigation, the police identified this man as a suspect and arrested him on the morning of September 30 on charges of property damage and obstruction of work by fraudulent means. During police questioning, the man admitted to the charges, stating, "It is true that I did it." He had been working at the company since July 9 this year and voluntarily resigned on August 19. During his employment, he was responsible for the production line and food inspection.
The police have not disclosed the specific food products involved, but estimate the damage at 50 yen per contaminated item. The police plan to continue investigating the motive and further details of the incident.
