Sleep Apnea Risk Notification After 30 Days of Tracking
Now, domestic users can also use the 'Sleep Apnea Notifications' feature on Apple Watch.
On September 30, Apple announced, "Starting today, the Sleep Apnea Notifications feature on Apple Watch is available in South Korea."
This feature analyzes data from the Apple Watch accelerometer to identify patterns of breathing disturbances that indicate signs of sleep apnea from the 'normal' to 'deep' stages of sleep.
It tracks breathing disturbances during the user's sleep, providing feedback on whether such disturbances increased or did not increase during the previous night.
If an increase in breathing disturbances is frequently detected over a 30-day period, the user will receive a notification regarding the potential for sleep apnea.
Through these notifications, users can identify when potential sleep apnea occurred and obtain data that can be used when consulting with a physician or other experts.
Users can read reference information about sleep apnea in the 'Health' application. This feature is available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later models, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later models, and Apple Watch SE 3 running watchOS 26.
It is designed to notify users aged 18 and older who have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea if signs of sleep apnea ranging from moderate to severe are detected. Apple explained, "Users who have been diagnosed with sleep apnea or are under the age of 18 are not eligible to use the Sleep Apnea Notifications feature."
