Sign Solidarity Cooperation Agreement for Battery Talent Development
The Korea Battery Industry Association announced that, together with Gyeonggi Province, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, it will hold the opening ceremony for the "Korea Battery Academy Gyeonggi Campus" on September 30 at the Pangyo Startup Campus in Gyeonggi Province.
The Korea Battery Academy Gyeonggi Campus was established with budget support from Gyeonggi Province to nurture battery professionals in the region and support local companies and industries. Through collaboration with universities located in Gyeonggi Province, the campus plans to operate industry-tailored educational programs and foster talent for the battery sector.
The Gyeonggi Campus is a dedicated battery training facility within the Gyeonggi Startup Campus, covering an exclusive area of 681 square meters. It includes four lecture rooms, one large conference room, and one computer lab. The campus aims to train approximately 500 battery professionals annually, totaling around 2,000 over four years, by focusing on next-generation battery expertise and strengthening the capabilities of middle-aged employees (aged 40-50) working in local companies.
The Battery Academy Gyeonggi Campus will offer educational programs such as advanced mobility battery quality and safety training, customized in-depth courses for employees, and company demand-based field training.
In addition, in connection with the "Battery Academy Establishment" project supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the campus will provide practical training for prospective employees focusing on battery industry fundamentals, processes, and materials, as well as patent and trade education, a comprehensive "Battery Basics A to Z" course, and coin cell practical training for current employees to enhance their capabilities.
At the opening ceremony, the Korea Battery Industry Association will sign a "Battery Talent Development Solidarity Cooperation Agreement" with Gachon University, Kyung Hee University, and Sungkyunkwan University to strengthen cooperation in nurturing battery professionals with local universities.
Through this agreement, the association and the universities will closely collaborate around the Gyeonggi Campus to plan and operate joint education programs based on industry demand, nurture specialized talent for the battery sector and support employment and entrepreneurship, and discover joint exchange programs, thereby fostering a battery talent development ecosystem in Gyeonggi Province and contributing to local industry growth.
The Korea Battery Academy was launched last year with the goal of training approximately 5,000 field professionals for the battery industry over five years. It is currently operating in five regional hubs: Seoul, North Chungcheong Province, North Jeolla Province, Ulsan Metropolitan City, and Pohang City.
Attendees at the Gyeonggi Campus opening ceremony will include Park Noguk, Director General for Future Growth Industries at Gyeonggi Provincial Government; Lee Jaeyoung, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member; Lee Hoyoun, official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Choi Hongyeol, Director of the Industrial Talent Development Division at the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology; Park Taesung, Executive Vice President of the Korea Battery Industry Association; Kim Namho, Executive Director at LG Energy Solution; Kim Hoonkyu, Executive Director at Samsung SDI; Jung Daein, Vice President at SK On; as well as Kim Iltae, Head of the Secondary Battery Innovation Convergence University Project Group at Gachon University; Park Minsik, Head of the Next-Generation Secondary Battery Talent Development Center at Kyung Hee University; and Kim Kijae, Head of the Next-Generation Secondary Battery Talent Development Center at Sungkyunkwan University, among others from domestic battery companies.
