Yeongam County in South Jeolla Province is continuing its community safety relay campaign to prevent traffic accidents and child-related crimes during the autumn season. In anticipation of increased vehicle and agricultural machinery traffic, as well as a rise in the floating population due to festivals, holidays, and the harvest season, the county will conduct traffic accident prevention activities in key areas, multi-use facilities, and traditional markets until November 12.
The campaign is being held mainly at the venues for each town and township’s Residents’ Day events, with a focus on spreading a practical traffic safety culture. Key initiatives include protecting vulnerable road users, providing guidance for elderly drivers, and promoting safe operation of agricultural machinery.
The campaign took place at the Seohomyeon Residents’ Day on September 18, the Haksan-myeon Residents’ Day on September 19, the Gunseo-myeon Residents’ Day on September 22, and the Yeongam-eup Residents’ Day on September 26. Notably, on September 23, the Seohomyeon Saemaeul Leaders’ Council and Women’s Association held a traffic safety campaign in front of Jangcheon Elementary School and Seohomiddle School.
Additionally, on September 29, the county, together with the Yeongam Office of Education, Yeongam Police Station, and local community organizations, conducted a joint campaign to prevent child abduction at Samho Central Elementary School and Daebul Elementary School. Students were instructed on safety practices such as: not accepting food or gifts from strangers, informing guardians of their destination when going out, using main roads when commuting to and from school, and loudly calling for help in dangerous situations.
Na Hyungcheol, Director of Civil Safety at Yeongam County, stated, "We are continuing the campaign to establish a traffic safety culture and ensure child safety with the participation of the entire community," and emphasized, "The interest and participation of all residents is essential."
