Gwangju City is establishing the "Seochang Emotional Observatory" as the first core project of the "Yeongsan River 100-ri Trail, Y Project," with the observatory set to open at 5:20 PM on October 1. Located along the Yeongsan River near the Seochang fields in Gwangju, this observatory is anticipated to become a cherished relaxation space for citizens, fulfilling a long-held aspiration.

According to the city on September 29, a total of 2.5 billion KRW was invested in the construction of the Seochang Emotional Observatory, including 1.5 billion KRW in special grants and 1 billion KRW in municipal funds, over a period of three years. The observatory is uniquely designed to offer views of the Yeongsan River's beautiful flow and expansive fields of silver grass, providing a spectacular sunset backdrop. It also serves as a complex space that commemorates the historical significance of the old Seochang Port while allowing visitors to experience both ecological beauty and cultural value. The city expects this site to become a renowned sunset destination, not only for Gwangju but nationwide.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Mayor Kang Gijung, Seo District Chief Kim Ikang, local National Assembly members, heads of public institutions, and around 200 citizens. A special performance by the Gwangju City Symphony Orchestra is also scheduled.

The Y Project is a large-scale initiative by Gwangju City, based on four core values: "Clean Water, Exciting, Eco, and Connection." By 2030, the city plans to invest a total of 373.2 billion KRW in 20 projects. The opening of the Seochang Emotional Observatory marks the first step, and it is expected to serve as an important milestone in expanding waterfront spaces, restoring the ecosystem, and building tourism infrastructure along the Yeongsan River.

The city anticipates that the "Seochang Emotional Observatory," as a destination for rest and healing, will attract both citizens and tourists, becoming a place where people want to visit and stay. This is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and enhancing the city's brand value.

Lee Seungkyu, Director of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters, stated, "The Seochang Emotional Observatory is a space where citizens and tourists can enjoy both the beautiful sunset over the Yeongsan River and cultural experiences. We hope it will become a representative landmark of Gwangju where visitors can experience ecological, cultural, and historical value."
