Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion for Higher Education (President Kim Youngbu, BISTEP) concluded the '11th Busan R&D Week' held at BEXCO Exhibition Center II on September 25-26.
Marking its 11th anniversary this year, Busan R&D Week served as a platform to share policy and technology trends centered on AI and bio-innovation technologies, and to facilitate exchanges among science and technology professionals from industry, academia, research, and government sectors.
During the opening ceremony, awards were presented for 'Outstanding Research and Development Achievements in Busan' and the 'Busan Science and Technology Innovation Award.' Professor Yeom Hanwoong of POSTECH delivered a keynote speech on 'Science and Technology Policy in the Era of Innovation and Transformation,' outlining directions for national science and technology innovation.
Following this, Ahn Hyunsil, Vice President for Research at UNIST, gave a presentation titled 'The Final Industrial War in the AI Era: What Is the Regional Science and Technology Strategy?' emphasizing the need for cooperation within the southern economic zone.
Various sessions, including policy forums and symposiums, discussed future technologies and regional innovation strategies such as ▲ regional innovation in biohealth ▲ AI-based precision medicine and new drug development ▲ strategies for introducing AI into manufacturing ▲ development plans for the intelligent robotics industry ▲ and AI-based smart port strategies for Busan Port.
Through expert meetings and discussions, the event was recognized for establishing a practical cooperation platform by strengthening the regional science and technology network, expanding collaboration among industry, academia, and research, and sharing outstanding achievements.
Kim Youngbu, President of BISTEP, stated, "This year's Busan R&D Week reaffirmed Busan's scientific and technological capabilities and growth potential," adding, "We will do our utmost to foster the regional R&D ecosystem and support innovation so that Busan can leap forward as a global hub for science and technology."
