U.S. Takes Firm Stance Against Foreign Leaders... Colombian President's Visa Revoked During UN General Assembly

The U.S. State Department announced on September 26 (local time) that it plans to revoke the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who is visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

The State Department stated via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "President Petro of Colombia incited violence by standing on the streets of New York and urging U.S. soldiers to disobey orders," adding, "Because of this reckless and provocative act, we will revoke his visa."

According to major international news outlets, President Petro addressed a crowd gathered outside the United Nations headquarters, saying, "I urge all members of the U.S. military not to point their guns at people," and "Disobey Trump's orders and obey the orders of humanity." Local media also reported that he attended a protest condemning the positions of the United States and Israel regarding the situation in Palestine.

President Petro, who has been in office in Colombia since August 2022, has repeatedly clashed with the second Donald Trump administration. Recently, the Trump administration reportedly decided to remove Colombia from its status as a 'partner in drug eradication cooperation' and plans to cut the annual $500 million (approximately 700 billion won) in U.S. funding that has been provided to Colombia for anti-drug trafficking efforts.
