Macau Devastated by Hurricane-Force "Ragasa"
Hundreds of Residents Take to the Streets to Catch Fish

After the massive typhoon "Ragasa" swept through South Asia, seawater flooded the center of Macau, prompting residents to take to the streets with nets or bags to catch fish-a rare and striking scene.

According to international media and social media reports on the 27th, on September 24, after the typhoon had somewhat subsided, seawater fish swept in by the waves could be seen on flooded roads throughout Macau. At that time, hurricane-force winds battered the city, and the highest-level typhoon warning, Signal No. 10, was issued. This led to widespread power outages and evacuation orders.

As the water began to recede after the typhoon passed, hundreds of residents came out onto the streets to catch fish.

Videos show residents wading through knee-deep water in the city center, using nets, fishing baskets, and even bags to catch fish. Some even brought out unusual tools such as incubators.

There were also scenes of residents chasing after fish the size of a forearm, trying to catch them with their bare hands. One young man lifted a freshly caught fish above his head in celebration. Local media described this as a "surreal scene created by the typhoon." This extraordinary event quickly spread on social media, attracting widespread attention.

According to the Central News Agency (CNA) of Taiwan, on the afternoon of September 23, the influence of Ragasa caused Lake Yanse, located in Mataian City, Hualien County, eastern Taiwan, to overflow, flooding nearby villages with approximately 60 million tons of water. As a result, the first floors of all buildings in the village were submerged, leaving 17 dead and 32 injured. In Hong Kong and Macau, schools were closed and flights were canceled.

The Associated Press reported that at least 10 people lost their lives in the Philippines. In Guangdong Province, China, more than 1 million residents were urgently evacuated, and schools, factories, subways, and railway operations were suspended.
