Ministry of Science and ICT Raises Administrative System Disruption Alert to "Severe"

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on September 27 that it would raise the crisis alert level for administrative system disruptions caused by the fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) from "Caution," which was issued early in the morning, to "Severe."

Minister Bae Kyunghoon of the Ministry of Science and ICT held a situation meeting regarding the fire incident and made this decision. In response, a Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has been established to strengthen emergency response measures.

The Ministry of Science and ICT has been operating under a 24-hour emergency work system since the fire at the NIRS Daejeon headquarters the previous day. Virtually all major national IT networks, including the websites of central government agencies such as the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Ministry of Science and ICT, as well as affiliated organizations’ websites and internal work networks for public officials, have been "shut down." The Ministry plans to prioritize the restoration of services that most affect the public, such as post office financial and postal services, to resume operations as soon as possible.
