According to the county on the 26th, this special exhibition is based on the exploration of rare wild silk moths conducted in 2013 on Negros Island, located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. The first installment, 'Negros Story 1,' was introduced in 2022, and this exhibition returns with the second chapter for visitors.
Negros Island is about six times the size of Jeju Island in Korea and is the fourth largest island in the Philippines. The active volcano Kanlaon is located at the center of the island, with the west side known for sugarcane production and the east side consisting of remote, untouched jungles.
This primeval forest is home to some of the world's rarest and largest wild silk moths. In 2013, Dr. Minwoo Son's expedition team visited the site in person, leaving behind vivid records of their discoveries.
The exhibition will showcase over 120 species and more than 300 specimens and photographs, including the Maenas Long-tailed Wild Silk Moth, renowned for its beautiful long tail; the Selene Blue Long-tailed Mountain Wild Silk Moth, nicknamed 'Tinker Bell' after Peter Pan's fairy; the Jampasan Wild Silk Moth, known as the 'Prince of Moths'; and the Huriti Wild Silk Moth, which produces high-quality wild silk. Other highlights include the trio of Dandy Stag Beetles, giant centipedes, emperor scorpions, killer wasps, and fruit bats.
This exhibition, consisting of a total of 26 works, aims to deliver the vivid experience of directly exploring the mysterious world of insects.
County Governor Kwon Ikhyeon stated, "With this year's Chuseok holiday approaching, the exhibition will offer a unique attraction for returning residents and tourists, and will be a special gift for families visiting together."
