On September 26, the Gwangju District Court, Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Jang Chansu), announced that it had sentenced Ms. A, a woman in her mid-40s who works as an office worker, to four months in prison with a one-year suspension, on charges of attempted coercion.

Ms. A was brought to trial on charges of forcing two high school students to join her for drinks in a busy downtown area of Gwangju at around 8:20 p.m. on May 6.

The victims refused, stating that they were students, but Ms. A offered them money if they would drink with her.

Ms. A forcibly grabbed the wrists of the students who were refusing, and the altercation in front of the bar continued for about 20 minutes.

The students managed to leave the scene while Ms. A briefly went to the restroom.

The court explained the sentencing by stating, "We took into account that the crime was impulsive, that it was only an attempt, and that the defendant confessed and showed signs of remorse."
