Strategic Diversification of Sales Channels and Consumer-Oriented Marketing Bear Fruit
Farm Income Rises, Local Economy Poised for Revitalization
The "Cheongyang Chili Pepper Special Promotion" led by Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province exceeded its target sales by more than double in just one season, achieving a total of 1.1 billion won in revenue.
This is seen as a result not only of increased sales, but also of the innovative regional agricultural marketing and diversification of sales channels spearheaded by County Governor Kim Dongon.
According to the county on September 25, the Cheongyang Chili Pepper Special Promotion held this fall recorded sales of 1.1 billion won, more than twice the amount achieved during the same period last year (500 million won), surpassing the original target of 1 billion won.
In particular, the county combined traditional distribution networks such as festival venues and direct stores with a variety of channels including online shopping malls, live commerce, and social media, developing sales routes tailored to consumption patterns by generation.
Additionally, by collaborating with external professional marketing firms, the county strengthened promotional videos, content design, and partnership marketing to enhance its brand image.
Furthermore, the Cheongyang Chili Pepper Research Association and Cheongyang Agricultural Cooperative selected only GAP-certified chili peppers to offer dried chili peppers and chili powder in a variety of packages. Practical benefits such as Cheongyang Love Gift Certificates, complimentary gifts, and free delivery services were also provided to stimulate consumer purchasing desire.
This achievement is particularly meaningful as it has provided farmers with tangible income growth amid climate crises such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall.
Governor Kim stated, "This achievement was made possible by the sweat and effort of our farmers," and added, "We will continue to promote the excellence of Cheongyang chili peppers nationwide and create a sustainable agricultural environment by expanding sales channels."
Meanwhile, based on this experience, the county plans to strengthen marketing not only for chili peppers but also for other local specialties such as chestnuts and goji berries, accelerating efforts to increase farm income and revitalize the local economy.
