A middle-aged man who attempted to abduct an 8-year-old girl in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul has avoided detention.
On September 24, Lee Younggwang, the presiding judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Southern District Court, rejected the arrest warrant for a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, after conducting a pretrial detention hearing on charges of attempted abduction of a minor earlier that morning.
Judge Lee stated, "Based solely on the evidence submitted, there is insufficient proof that the suspect had the intent to lure the minor."
Mr. A is accused of attempting to abduct an 8-year-old elementary school girl by approaching her in front of a convenience store in Sinwol-dong, Yangcheon-gu, at approximately 9:36 p.m. on September 22. Police arrested Mr. A at 11:20 p.m. on the same day.
Authorities have implemented safety measures for the child victim as a crime victim.
