Cho Kuk: "President Lee Jaemyung, the Greatest Victim of the Yoon Sukyeol Prosecution Administration"

"Withdrawal of Indictment Must Be Implemented"

On September 24, Cho Kuk, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, defined President Lee Jaemyung as a "victim" of the prosecution's investigation conducted during the Yoon Sukyeol administration, and argued that "withdrawal of indictment" measures should be taken regarding the trials involving President Lee.

At the "Problems and Solutions of Prosecutorial Power Abuse" forum held at the National Assembly that morning, Chairman Cho stated, "If I had to name a single greatest victim of the Yoon Sukyeol prosecution administration, it would be President Lee Jaemyung. President Lee is the worst-ever 'victim of false and fabricated prosecution charges,'" expressing this view.

He continued, "The Yoon Sukyeol administration's relentless and brutal attacks to bring down Lee Jaemyung-who was a presidential rival, opposition leader, and the most prominent contender for the next presidency-were unprecedented. The National Assembly must fully commit to investigating the truth behind the 'attempt to destroy Lee Jaemyung,' carrying out personnel reforms, and restoring the damages, alongside the ongoing legislative efforts for prosecution reform."

He further argued, "In some of President Lee's trials, there should not just be a 'suspension of trial,' but rather a 'withdrawal of indictment.' This is because political investigations and prosecutions, in which due process violations and fabrication of testimony and evidence were fully mobilized, cannot be considered legitimate."

He also highlighted the need for the dismantling of the prosecution office, the dismantling of prosecutorial power, and prompt restoration of damages resulting from prosecutorial abuse as key elements of prosecution reform, emphasizing, "Abolishing the prosecution's supplementary investigation authority is the legislative spirit of prosecution reform."
