Gumi City Holds 3rd Startup Support Organizations Council of 2025

In-depth Discussion on Investment and Support Measures for Advanced Startups
Enhancing the Startup Support System Through the Startup Support Organizations Council

On September 23, 2025, the city of Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, held the "3rd Gumi City Startup Support Organizations Council of 2025" (hereinafter referred to as the Council) at the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute.


The Council has been operating since April 2024 to promote stable growth and investment for startups. Through this initiative, Gumi has established a comprehensive support system that covers the entire process for startups, from securing office space to attracting investment.


This session of the Council saw participation from a total of 14 organizations, including the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute. Notably, startups in the advanced industries sector participated and showcased their outstanding technological capabilities, drawing significant attention from the supporting organizations present at the Council.

Seo Taemin, Vice President of Lumien Co., Ltd., introduced glass substrates for semiconductors utilizing multi-layer glass stacking technology. He emphasized that the company is receiving considerable interest from major domestic and international corporations and highlighted the need for comprehensive support, including commercialization funding, patents, and legal advisory services. The supporting organizations evaluated Lumien as a startup with strong growth potential to lead the global market.


Yoon Hyungseok and Seo Donghwan, Co-CEOs of Ortamaterials Co., Ltd., presented their wastewater zero-discharge secondary battery recycling technology.


As a company applying eco-friendly technologies such as wastewater zero-discharge processes, Ortamaterials was recognized for its explosive growth potential. The company requested support for funding the construction of its third plant within Gumi, the introduction of advanced automated facilities, and the supply of highly skilled talent.


Kim Seungyeon, CEO of Firebuster, emphasized that the company’s fire suppression sprinkler valve "Jetbuster" has received NET (New Excellent Technology) certification, and requested support for the establishment of a demonstration test bed, investment, and policy funding.


Although Firebuster is currently based in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, the company expressed a desire to relocate to Gumi in the future, and was evaluated as a company requiring strategic support and attention to attract its relocation to the region.


During the Council, practical measures to support the rapid and stable commercialization of startups were discussed. The Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute reviewed plans to provide office space and commercialization support for startups, while Enlight Ventures Co., Ltd. highly evaluated Ortamaterials’ technology and announced its plan to invest.


Additionally, organizations such as the Gyeongbuk Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, Korea Technology Finance Corporation, Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, and Korea SMEs and Startups Agency agreed to link their respective support programs to help companies grow stably.


Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "Gumi has established an integrated support system that allows startups to receive comprehensive assistance from commercialization to investment attraction," and added, "We will continue to provide ongoing support so that global unicorn companies can emerge in advanced industries."
