The Democratic Party Gwangju Innovation Committee, an organization of party members in the Gwangju region, took a firm stance on September 23, openly criticizing the excessive investment demands of the Trump administration and announcing plans for a nationwide response. The committee revealed that it is considering strong measures such as a boycott of American products and stocks, as well as a travel boycott to the United States, raising expectations of significant repercussions.

On the morning of the same day, the Democratic Party Gwangju Innovation Committee held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council briefing room, stating, "The Trump administration's demand for a cash investment of 350 billion dollars (approximately 470 trillion Korean won) poses a serious threat to the Korean economy," and strongly condemned it as "essentially a unilateral demand for compensation."

The committee emphasized that such demands from the United States not only impose an enormous financial burden equivalent to 10 million Korean won per citizen, but also constitute a grave infringement on national sovereignty and a dangerous attempt to undermine the foundation of the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

The committee further warned, "If the government accepts these unreasonable demands from the United States, South Korea could face an economic catastrophe even greater than the past foreign exchange crisis," expressing deep concern about the potential for fundamental disruption to the economic system.

Regarding the ongoing negotiations with the United States, the committee called on the government and the National Assembly to: ▲ immediately begin renegotiations of the unequal terms, ▲ ensure full transparency throughout all negotiation processes, and ▲ establish safeguards against capital outflows to prevent the loss of national wealth.

The committee issued a final warning, stating, "If the United States continues its unilateral and coercive stance, we will initiate nationwide action," and declared, "We will resolutely confront this with a comprehensive boycott movement, including a travel boycott to the United States and a boycott of American products and stocks."
