Jang Donghyuk: "Has the Democratic Party Lost Its Grip on Reality in Its Desire to Seize the Judiciary?"

Requested Cooperation for Party Unity in Meeting with Kim Moonsu
"You are doing very well," Kim Moonsu Responds

Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea on the 23rd for pushing for an "emergency hearing on suspicions of Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hui-dae's involvement in the presidential election," saying, "I wonder if the Democratic Party has lost its grip on reality because of its desire to take control of the judiciary."

After a luncheon meeting with Kim Moonsu, former Minister of Employment and Labor, at a Chinese restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul, Jang told reporters, "With the special tribunal for insurrection, the dismantling of the prosecution, and this series of political outrages, I believe the road to dictatorship has already crossed the seventh and eighth ridges," expressing his concerns.

Jang pointed out, "Hasn't the fabrication and political maneuvering by Assembly members Seo Youngkyo and Boo Seungchan been laid bare for all to see? Instead of apologizing to the public and exercising restraint, they are unable to abandon their disgraceful political ambition to remove the Chief Justice and seize control of the judiciary."

He continued, "As always, they are summoning even the head of the judiciary to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to silence opposition lawmakers, while ruling party members laugh among themselves, fabricating facts that do not exist to incite propaganda against the Chief Justice and judges. Ultimately, this is nothing but a political plot to drive out the Chief Justice."

Jang stated, "If the judiciary is taken over, democracy will die. The people will never forgive this. On the contrary, it will bring a severe backlash against the Democratic Party."

Regarding the arrest of Han Hakja, President of the Unification Church, Jang said, "It seems the special prosecutor is engaged in a political scheme to link the People Power Party to a particular religion," adding, "I deeply regret this offensive by the special prosecutor and the oppression of a specific religion."

During the meeting with former Minister Kim, Jang requested cooperation for party unity.

Jang told Kim, "The situation within the party is difficult in many ways, and the state of national affairs is also challenging. I asked to meet you to seek your advice and wisdom, and I appreciate that you readily agreed." In response, Kim said, "You are doing a great job," and added, "You look even better these days."

Jang further stated, "I received a lot of valuable advice from former Minister Kim on leading the party, and there were many points we will carefully consider and accept. I am grateful for the many good words you have shared."
