Kooksoondang announced on September 23 that it will launch a new product, “Saeng Baekseju,” an unpasteurized version of its Baekseju rice wine.

[Today’s New Product] Kooksoondang Launches “Saeng Baekseju” Featuring the Fresh Taste of Newly Brewed Rice Wine

The new Saeng Baekseju is crafted using rice harvested in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, and Kooksoondang’s fermentation technology, combined with Baekhaguk and a variety of other ingredients. By adjusting the proportions of the ingredients compared to the original Baekseju, the new product maintains the authentic flavor of Baekseju while delivering a richer and more refreshing fruit aroma. According to Kooksoondang, because Saeng Baekseju is not pasteurized, it offers a fresher and lighter taste than the original Baekseju.

Saeng Baekseju has an alcohol content of 13%. As it is an unpasteurized rice wine, it must be refrigerated at temperatures below 10°C. Previously, Saeng Baekseju was only available in limited locations such as Baekseju Village, operated by Kooksoondang, where proper refrigeration facilities for unpasteurized rice wine were fully equipped. With this launch, the sales channels will expand to include traditional liquor online shopping malls such as Sulmarket, Sulpick, and Market Kurly.

Baekseju is a medicinal rice wine that pioneered the traditional liquor market in Korea. It was developed by restoring the raw rice fermentation method used for Baekhaju, a renowned spirit from the Goryeo Dynasty, and its name was inspired by a story in Jibong Yuseol, a practical learning book from the Joseon Dynasty. Baekseju is a liquor that embodies Korea’s history and culture. It was the first alcoholic beverage to be designated as an “Excellent Cultural Product” by the Korean government and is recognized as a representative cultural product of Korea.
