IT YouTuber Itsup Apologizes for Quality Issues, Announces Compensation Plan
"Improved Cases to Be Sent, 10,000-Won Points Provided"
IT YouTuber Itsup, who has 2.77 million subscribers, has apologized regarding the quality controversy over the iPhone 17 case he produced and sold.
On September 22, Itsup announced in the community section of his YouTube sub-channel 'UPSub' that "initial quality control (QC) issues-such as MagSafe magnets detaching and scratched products being shipped-occurred with the iPhone 17 skin case I made, so I immediately halted sales over the weekend."
He said, "When I made the first generation of the Getri case, it received a fair amount of attention and positive feedback, considering I didn't promote it much. I thought that with a bit more effort, the second generation could be produced without any problems, but significant shortcomings were revealed in QC." Getri is the IT lifestyle brand of OddNT, a corporation founded by Itsup.
Itsup stated that he has prepared a compensation plan along with his apology. He said, "Since I promoted the product on this channel, I believe many people purchased it because I made it. This time, as soon as the compensation plan was finalized, I decided to inform the community as well." He explained that all case purchasers, regardless of whether their product was defective, are eligible for ▲ an additional improved product to be shipped (without having to return the original) ▲ an extra 10,000 won in Naver Pay points.
He also added, "For those who want a refund, it is possible unconditionally and without returning the original product. As someone who purchases many products myself, I know that defects can occur with any manufacturer, but I believe how you respond and compensate is just as important. I hope this can at least be a small consolation to the customers who trusted me and pre-ordered the product."
Previously, some units of Getri's iPhone 17 series magnetic cases had quality issues. Purchasers pointed out problems such as scratches on brand-new products and MagSafe magnets attached to the case detaching easily. Some users even reported injuring their hands during installation or removal because the case fit too tightly on the iPhone body.
On social media and other online platforms, consumer complaints have spread, with comments such as "I trusted Itsup but am disappointed," "I bought it as a fan, but I regret it," and "28,000 won at retail is just too much." As the controversy grew, Itsup posted an apology on the sales page and temporarily suspended sales of the related product.
