KOSPI Hits New Highs Again... '80,000 Won Samsung Electronics' Recovers

Closed at 3,468, Up 0.7%... KOSDAQ Rises 1.3%
Strong Buying by Foreign Investors and Institutions... Individuals Sell on KOSDAQ
Samsung Electronics Surges 4.6%... Returns to the 80,000-Won Level

The KOSPI set new records for both its intraday high and closing high. The KOSDAQ also rose by more than 1%, bringing a positive atmosphere to the stock market.


On September 22, the KOSPI closed at 3,468.65, up 0.68% from the previous trading day, marking its highest closing level ever. During the session, it reached 3,482.25, surpassing the 3,480 mark for the first time in history.


Strong buying by both foreign investors and institutions played a key role. They recorded net purchases of 548.1 billion won and 296.7 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors, who had recorded net sales of 395 billion won on September 19, switched to even larger net buying. Individual investors, on the other hand, sold a net 872.8 billion won, appearing to realize profits.


By sector, electrical and electronics (2.26%), medical and precision instruments (1.39%), manufacturing (1.22%), machinery and equipment (1.12%), and insurance (0.91%) showed strength. In contrast, telecommunications (-1.64%), metals (-1.21%), transportation and warehousing (-1.21%), and non-metals (-0.98%) declined.


The top 10 stocks by market capitalization also showed mixed results. Samsung Electronics, the largest by market cap, surged by 4.6%. Doosan Enerbility (2.6%), Hyundai Motor (1.6%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (1.0%) also performed strongly. On the other hand, SK Hynix (-0.5%), LG Energy Solution (-0.2%), and Hanwha Aerospace (-0.2%) declined.


The KOSDAQ also closed strong, ending at 874.36, up 1.30% from the previous trading day. After opening strong at 869.06, the index continued to climb, settling above the 870 mark.


Unlike the KOSPI, individual investors alone recorded net purchases of 175.1 billion won. Foreign investors and institutions recorded net purchases of 77.8 billion won and 13.0 billion won, respectively.


In the KOSDAQ market, sectoral disparities widened significantly. General services jumped by 4.64%. This was followed by pharmaceuticals (1.86%), textiles and apparel (1.41%), chemicals (1.39%), manufacturing (1.19%), non-metals (0.97%), medical and precision instruments (0.94%), and electrical and electronics (0.92%), all posting gains. In contrast, paper and wood (-1.33%), entertainment and culture (-1.11%), and transportation equipment and parts (-1.00%) declined.


Most of the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization rose by more than 1%. Samchundang Pharm led the gains with a surge of 13.0%. Alteogen also rose sharply by 7.3%. Peptone (5.1%), PharmaResearch (2.3%), Ligachem Bio (1.7%), and Rainbow Robotics (1.4%) each gained more than 1%. Only Ecopro BM (-0.5%) and Ecopro (-0.2%) declined.
