Small Shops Blooming on the Island Event
Ulleung County, North Gyeongsang Province, announced that the "Ulleungharu Market: Small Shops Blooming on the Island" event, held on September 21 around the passenger terminal area of Sadong Port in Ulleung-eup, concluded successfully.
This market was a special event open for just one day, where the mountains and sea of Ulleungdo, along with the ideas of local residents, came together to create small shops.
Visitors had the opportunity to experience a variety of products and discover unique stories exclusive to Ulleung.
Ulleungharu Market was organized as part of the Rural New Vitality Plus Project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. This project aims to boost local vitality by encouraging residents, young people, and experts to collaborate in developing new products and content utilizing Ulleung’s unique resources, as well as supporting resident-led experimental activities.
At this event, four action groups participating in the New Vitality Plus Project showcased products they had prepared themselves. These included Ulleung Life by the processed food brand Bibineun Iyagi, which uses Ulleungdo’s wild vegetables; Seomgaon, which developed desserts featuring Ulleung specialties; Uleungmeonga, which presented noodle dishes capturing the flavors of Ulleung; and Ulleung Usan Gorosoe Doenjang, which continues the tradition of fermented foods.
These action groups are creating new added value based on Ulleung’s resources and are fostering the growth of local brands led by residents.
County Governor Nam Han-gwon stated, "Ulleungharu Market was not just a place for sales, but a venue for experimentation and exchange created by the community," adding, "We will continue to support diverse initiatives that embrace Ulleung’s nature and culture to foster sustainable local vitality."
