The county was highly praised for its three core cultural initiatives-performing and community arts, cultural heritage and history, and cultural education-which contributed to strengthening local identity and expanding access to arts and culture.

The Korea Cultural Value Awards, organized by the Korea Cultural Value Research Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, have annually recognized and awarded local governments that have achieved outstanding results in realizing core cultural values since 2019.

Previously, the county invested a total project budget of 107.5 million won last year to implement a variety of cultural programs, including busking performances at major tourist sites, 'Culture Day' events, regular performances by community arts clubs, and traditional Korean music performances at tourist attractions. A total of 133 local artist teams, comprising 744 participants, took part in these initiatives, and 3,560 cumulative attendees engaged in various cultural activities.

In addition, the county received high marks for its efforts to highlight and revitalize local cultural heritage by hosting the 28th Samin Culture Memorial Event, the 60th memorial and academic conference for Kim Byungro, and the academic seminar honoring Shin Gyeongjun.

In particular, the county was recognized as a model for other local governments by creating an environment where residents can experience culture in their daily lives through busking performances at tourist sites and mobile cultural delivery services, and by expanding opportunities for cultural education down to the township and village level through a network of nine small libraries.

County Mayor Choi Youngil stated, "This award is the result of improving cultural accessibility for our residents and actively utilizing the county's unique cultural assets. We will continue to do our best to build a cultural city together with our residents, based on Sunchang's distinctive cultural identity."
