From October 1 to December 7, the Goheung Art Center will hold a 10th anniversary remastered exhibition commemorating the late world-renowned painter Cheon Kyungja, who was born in Goheung. This exhibition was organized as a result of Professor Kim Jeonghee, the second daughter of Cheon Kyungja, serving as the general director of last year’s centennial special exhibition, which led to the permanent loan of 57 items (74 pieces) of the artist’s personal belongings to Goheung County. Through a variety of materials, including handwritten postcards and letters, as well as photographs created by Cheon Kyungja during her lifetime, the exhibition offers a multidimensional look into her life and artistic world.
The exhibition is divided into three main themes. On the first floor of the Goheung Art Center, visitors can view over 40 color paintings, while the second floor features 55 pieces of the artist’s personal belongings and five unique media art works created specifically for this remastered exhibition.
The color paintings on display this time include works such as Ecological, Page 22 of My Sad Legend, Ah! Heartless, Fantasy Journey, Italian Journey, Grand Canyon, Hippie, and Gauguin Museum Garden. These pieces have not been exhibited in Goheung for the past ten years.
This exhibition was produced based on replicas and personal belongings, with copyright approval from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It is expected to provide a small but significant comfort to those who miss Cheon Kyungja, while also delivering new inspiration through the replicas and the remastered exhibition.
Governor Gong stated, "Cheon Kyungja was a star in the history of modern Korean art, captivating many with the unique colors and intense emotions found in her works. I hope that through this exhibition, many people will experience and be deeply moved by the artistic world of Cheon Kyungja."
A county official commented, "The 10th anniversary exhibition commemorating Cheon Kyungja is both a response to the longing and regret cherished by those who loved her, and a world where we meet her once again."
The exhibition will run daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from October 1 to December 7, with last admission at 5 p.m. It will be closed every Monday, and admission is free.
