Completion Targeted for 2027
Yeongju City, North Gyeongsang Province, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Yeongju Advanced Bearing National Industrial Complex' at 2:00 p.m. on September 26 in the Jeokseo-dong area (opposite the main gate of KT&G).
Approximately 700 people are expected to attend the event, including Acting Mayor Yoo Jeonggeun of Yeongju, officials from North Gyeongsang Province, Yeongju City, and the Gyeongbuk Development Corporation, as well as local residents and business representatives.
The pre-ceremony will feature fusion Korean traditional music and a Nanta performance, followed by the main event, which will include a commemorative performance, a project progress report, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, and a group photo session.
The Yeongju Advanced Bearing National Industrial Complex is an industrial zone established with the goal of localizing key bearing components and stabilizing the supply chain. Home to the nation’s only high-tech bearing technology center, the complex has been highly regarded for its industrial foundation and location conditions, receiving approval for its industrial complex plan from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2023. Subsequently, through a revision notice in 2025, the final development area was confirmed at 1,179,109.9 square meters (approximately 360,000 pyeong), with completion targeted for 2027.
In particular, bearings are essential components for future core industries such as electric vehicles and semiconductors, making localization a strategic necessity to achieve supply chain independence and secure manufacturing technology competitiveness. Therefore, the establishment of this industrial complex carries significant meaning beyond simple regional development, as it is crucial for strengthening the nation’s manufacturing competitiveness.
Yeongju is gaining attention as a cluster for related industries, thanks to its specialized industrial base in mechanical parts, excellent educational and human resources, and ease of securing land. With the creation of this industrial complex, Yeongju is expected to emerge as the hub of the K-Bearing industry. In addition, the expansion of business attraction, linkage with upstream and downstream industries, and job creation are anticipated to have positive effects on the regional economy as a whole.
Acting Mayor Yoo Jeonggeun of Yeongju stated, "This groundbreaking ceremony is more than just the start of construction; it is a major step forward for Yeongju to become a leading center for future manufacturing innovation. We will focus all our capabilities on developing the bearing industry as a future growth engine for Yeongju."
