Regional Chambers and Workforce Development Centers Mobilized

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) announced on September 21 that, in celebration of Youth Week (September 20-26), it will expand its employment and career development support for over 53,000 young people in collaboration with its 200,000 member companies. This year, through its Integrated Work Experience Support Center, KCCI is providing work experience opportunities for 43,000 young people, an increase of 10,000 compared to last year. Fourteen regional chambers of commerce in cities such as Seoul and Cheongju are participating as operating organizations, currently offering work experience to 2,350 young people in partnership with member companies and other local businesses.

KCCI is also nurturing 10,000 young talents in future growth industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and semiconductors, in cooperation with seven workforce development centers and 36 leading company academies nationwide. The seven workforce development centers have set a goal to train 1,974 skilled workers in advanced industries (including 516 in semiconductors, 464 in AI, 397 in robotics, and 142 in information security), and have already educated 1,021 individuals in the first half of this year. In the second half, they plan to recruit an additional 953 trainees to foster practical talent. Companies participating in the leading company academies are operating vocational training programs for 7,000 individuals in fields such as semiconductors, AI, and big data.

Additionally, KCCI is supporting vocational training and job placement for 1,324 third-year students at vocational high schools nationwide. Last year, the program for vocational high schools achieved the highest employment rate among similar initiatives, at 88.6%.

Lee Sangbok, Head of the Human Resources Development Division at KCCI, stated, "Young people are the core driving force behind the future of Korea's economy and industry. We will expand internship, project, and other diverse work experience opportunities to help young people build their career ladders and enhance their expertise through training programs in advanced fields, so they can grow into the leaders of tomorrow."
