LG Electronics Teaches Kids About Resource Circulation and Donates Vacuum Cleaners

LG Electronics has launched an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of resource circulation among children and adolescents nationwide as part of its customer participation campaign, "Battery Return." The company plans to develop activities that involve both LG Electronics and its customers throughout the entire product lifecycle, including development, use, disposal, and resource circulation.


On September 21, LG Electronics announced that it had recently collaborated with the Korea Environment Corporation and others to produce and distribute for free a resource circulation educational book for children and adolescents, titled "Goodbye, See You Again! : The Story of Electronic Product Resource Circulation." A total of 2,000 copies were donated to the LG Electronics Best Shop flagship store, special schools in Seoul and Incheon, and regional environmental education centers.

The book explains in a storytelling format the functions, operating principles, and safe and convenient usage methods of various home appliances used in daily life at home and school. In particular, it provides detailed information on the disposal methods and procedures not only for large appliances such as refrigerators and TVs, but also for small and medium-sized appliances like portable fans and rice cookers. This is intended to help children and adolescents learn the different disposal methods for each product and practice resource circulation in their everyday lives.


In addition, on the 17th, LG Electronics visited Yerimwon, a residential facility for people with intellectual disabilities in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, and donated 15 units of the "LG CordZero AI Objet Collection A9" purchased with funds raised from the "Battery Return" campaign, along with the resource circulation educational books.


The "Battery Return" campaign collects used batteries and other discarded parts from LG Electronics vacuum cleaners to recover waste resources and offers participating customers discounts on new parts purchases. The campaign is significant in that it collects and disassembles batteries that cannot be reused and extracts rare metals, which are scarce worldwide, for resource recycling.

Since 2022, LG Electronics has been conducting the "Battery Return" campaign twice a year in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Korea Environment Corporation, and E-Circular Governance. Over the past four years, more than 140,000 customers have participated, resulting in the collection of a cumulative total of 108 tons of used batteries. The number of batteries collected has exceeded 240,000, and more than 9.6 tons of rare metals have been extracted through this process. The second campaign of this year will begin in October. Customers who wish to participate can return used batteries to any LG Electronics service center nationwide. If visiting in person is difficult, customers can pre-register on the online shop and drop off the batteries at a nearby waste appliance collection box.


Jung Kiuk, Head of the Vacuum Cleaner Business Division at LG Electronics, said, "We created the educational book to help everyone learn the correct way to dispose of home appliances and participate in resource circulation," adding, "We will continue to develop activities that involve customers throughout the entire product lifecycle, from product development and use to disposal and resource circulation, to create a differentiated customer experience."
